5 Questions to Find Your Next Right Step

A SomaNorth™ Method Practice

When you’re stuck between two paths, two decisions, or even two versions of yourself, your mind can make a strong case for both.

But your body often tells the truth before your thoughts catch up.

The SomaNorth Method begins here: before we plan, we pause and listen. Not to the pressure of what we “should” do, but to the quieter signal underneath it. The one that points us back toward our own true north.

The next time you’re facing a decision, big or small, slow down and ask yourself these five questions. Give each one a little room. Notice what happens in your body, not just what happens in your head.

1. Where do I feel this in my body right now?

Before you try to figure the decision out, see if you can locate it physically. Is there tightness in your chest? A heaviness in your stomach? A softening in your shoulders? Your body may already be giving you information.

2. Does this option make me feel bigger or smaller?

Not louder or more confident. Not even less afraid. Just bigger or smaller.

Some choices help your breath open. Others make you contract, even when they look safe or sensible on paper.

3. Am I moving toward something, or away from something?

Sometimes we make decisions because we’re trying to escape discomfort, pressure, or fear. Other times, we’re moving toward something that feels more honest, aligned, or alive.

Both are worth noticing. But they don’t usually lead to the same place.

4. If no one would judge this choice, would I still make it?

Take the audience out of the room for a moment.

No explaining. No defending. No proving.

What choice is still there when you stop measuring it against everyone else’s expectations?

5. What would the next right step look like, not the whole staircase?

You don’t need the five-year plan today.

You just need the next honest, doable step. The one your nervous system can actually carry.

Your next right step doesn’t have to be big.

It just has to be true.
